Cesare Torelli was born in Roccacasale (AQ) on May 17, 1913 and died there on August 4, 2000.
Throughout his life he devoted himself to painting, music, poetry and photography, proving to be a versatile artist enthusiastically appreciated by the public and by critics as well as helping to bring prestige to his town. His pictorial and poetic activities have drawn inspiration from all that came to his observation: the people, the nature, the native town with its traditions reinterpreted in freedom of style and imagination. Roccacasale and the Peligna Valley were the prevalent subjects of his photographic activities, with landscapes, people, moments of life that reflect the specific characteristics and the atmosphere of those places. "Beautiful, sunny and cheerful my Rock, under the buckler of the ancient Castle, it spreads to the absorbed valley, to the bright green sweet harmony that chimes in the heart "... |
Roccacasale is a characteristic inner Abruzzo town with 750 inhabitants nestling at the foot of the Morrone Mountain, at an altitude of 450 m. above sea level. The district falls within the Majella National Park.
The town is dominated by the medieval castle, which offers a spectacular view over the whole Peligna Valley. The oldest part of the town, under the castle, is characterized by evocative and steep alleys and narrow streets that climb among old stone houses, many of which are uninhabited for a long time. The beautiful parish church of St. Michael the Archangel (XVI cent.) is on the border between the old town and the newer building area, where there is also the small church of St. Antony the Abbot (XIX cent.). |
